Partner, Mentor, and Visionary: A true gift to all who knew him, and a true gift to the Rochester community.
Larry Glazer dared to venture where other real estate developers wouldn’t go – taking buildings apart, putting them back together – breathing new life into our city. As Founder and Managing Partner of Buckingham Properties, he inspired the Rochester community with his passion and optimism.
Larry grew up in North Buffalo and earned an MBA from Columbia University. His finance career began in Manhattan, prior to marrying his summer camp sweetheart, Jane, a local girl from Brighton. Jane’s family owned the commercial printing firm Great Lakes Press, and Larry served as the company’s CEO until the business was sold in 1983.
Larry’s real estate career started in 1970 when he purchased a five-unit apartment building with his tennis partner, Harold Samloff, which was located on Buckingham Street. This first purchase was the beginning of a long and successful partnership with both Harold and The City of Rochester. At first, Larry saw the real estate venture as nothing more than a hobby. But forty years later, he had grown the Buckingham portfolio to more than 60 diverse properties totaling over ten million square feet.
Throughout his career, Larry took on some of the area’s most challenging real estate projects, including the redevelopment of the former Genesee Hospital Campus, the ArtCraft Optical Building, and Midtown Tower. He inspired others with his sense of hope and optimism, particularly with the revitalization of Downtown Rochester.
Larry’s accolades span decades and include a wide array of awards and achievements. He was a Board Member of ESL Federal Credit Union, Rochester Downtown Development Corporation, Monroe Community College, the Jewish Home of Rochester, and the Rochester Business Alliance, and co-chaired both the WXXI Comprehensive Capital Campaign and the United Way Alexis De Tocqueville Society with his wife Jane. Larry was also a key player in forming the Upstate New York chapter of the Kidney Foundation. Always a proponent of charitable giving, Larry supported countless human service and arts organizations.
Larry had a passion for Rochester, working every day to make our city a better place. His legacy lives on through his family, the Buckingham team, and countless others who share a commitment to making Rochester a vibrant city that we are proud to call home.
